Episode 5
“I don’t know what’s wrong with you two, but it should stop this minute,” Dad said in an angry tone. “Anyway, we have good news.”Immediately, Mom stood up. “We’re having a baby soon!” she shouted with excitement. Chika and I looked at each other in shock. Grandma stood up and hugged Mom, dancing around in joy, while i ran to our room, leaving them behind.
“We need to leave here,” I said, walking around the room. Then I had an idea. “I should go and check what’s inside that room DiDi refused to let us enter. Something must be hidden there. Now everyone is busy dancing,” I thought, as DiDi walked in and told me to follow him down to the dining table.
I walked down, following him. We entered the dining room, and I sat down, folding my arms, with sadness written all over my face. Then I noticed Mom wasn’t happy whenever she saw me, so I joined the party.
What I heard next was mind-blowing: we were having a party in the next four days. After the dancing, Chika and I went to our room and planned everything we had to do to expose Grandma. We decided to check if there was anything helpful we could find in the room we had run to last night, but DiDi seemed to be keeping an eye on us. So, we decided to give him a sleeping tablet. Chika had some in his bag; he said he usually added them to his parents’ food so he could sneak out for parties.
Now, the problem was how were we going to give it to him. We tried giving it to him through a drink that contained the drug, but he refused to take it. Next, we added it to his food, and eventually, it worked.
Soon it was midnight, and Chika and I waited for everyone to fall asleep. Then, we headed for the room that DiDi hadn’t allowed us to enter on the day we arrived. Getting there, we saw Grandma walking inside the room. We followed her, wearing black so she wouldn’t notice us.
We walked inside and saw a straight passage leading to another door. She entered and locked the door. We started looking for a way to see what was happening inside that room. Finally, Chika saw a broken wall. We looked through and saw Grandma bringing out something from her dress. It was a human hair. We both touched our hair, and it was still there. Whose hair could this be? I thought, as we continued looking through the broken wall.
She placed the hair before a small statue. Before our eyes, it disappeared. She smiled and was about to come out, so we both ran away to our room. We were both surprised. “Is Grandma a witch?” Chika asked in a curious tone. I just kept looking at him in surprise; I was totally speechless.
I locked the door and went to sleep. We slept, and soon it was morning. We woke up to DiDi’s knocking sound. We both went to the bathroom to take a bath as usual, and then we saw something in the mirror: our hair had been cut. We were both frightened; we couldn’t believe our eyes. “Grandma did this?” Chika said angrily. His hair was beautiful, and now he looked like a freak.
He stepped out of the bathroom angrily, and I knew he was about to approach Grandma. I tried holding him, but he was too stubborn. He went straight to her room and called her a witch. He told everyone what we saw her do last night, and Grandma started crying.
“I’m not a witch, and I have nothing to do with your missing hair!” she cried out. But Chika kept yelling, and eventually, Grandma fainted. Chika’s dad slapped him and grounded him from having dinner in the house until they left.
When Grandma was carried to her room, I saw her smiling, which meant she had made it up.
