Insecurity Worsens in Plateau State as Communities Face Renewed Attacks
Jos, Plateau State — Insecurity in Plateau State has taken a worrisome turn in recent weeks, with renewed attacks on communities leading to deaths, displacement, and widespread fear among residents. Armed assailants, suspected to be bandits and militia groups, have carried out a series of violent incursions in rural areas, especially in Bokkos, Mangu, and Riyom Local Government Areas.
Local sources report that dozens of villagers have been killed in night raids, with homes, farmlands, and properties destroyed. Thousands of residents have fled their homes to seek refuge in neighboring communities or internally displaced persons (IDP) camps. The recurring violence has paralyzed farming activities, raising concerns about food security and economic hardship.
Community leaders and civil society groups have expressed deep frustration over what they describe as the government’s slow response to the crisis. “We have reported these threats repeatedly, but help always comes too late,” said a village elder from Mangu. “Our people are being slaughtered like animals, and we don’t know who to turn to anymore.”
In response to the crisis, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has called for increased security presence and appealed to the federal government for support. He also urged residents to remain calm while assuring them that efforts are ongoing to address the situation.
Security agencies have reportedly intensified patrols in the affected areas, though many residents argue that the measures are insufficient and poorly coordinated. Human rights groups are also calling for a thorough investigation into the attacks and for perpetrators to be brought to justice.
As Plateau State continues to grapple with these challenges, the call for sustainable peace and stronger community-security collaboration remains more urgent than ever. Residents are hopeful that decisive action will soon restore normalcy to the troub
led region.
Insecurity everyday yet the government act like they neither see or heard about but going on doing what isn’t the country problem, imagine implementing solar grid system at the presidential Villa as if it’s the major problem the country Nigeria is facing.
Nah we dey do ourselves so no more talk anymore.
